Obituary

Glen Hairston Joyce, age 93, formerly of 1400 Lee Street, Martinsville, died on Sunday, November 06, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born in Williamson, WV on September 25, 1918 to the late Nicholas Hairston and Mary Ida Rhodes Joyce. In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by his wife, Mae Newman Joyce, and four sisters, Elva Wilson, Margaret Hodges, Eva Joyce and Emily Joyce.
He was a member of Meadow United Methodist Church, was a member of Ford Post VFW and had retired after working for American Furniture. He was an Army Veteran from WWII where he received the American Theatre Campaign Medal, Asiatic Theatre Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
He is survived by two sons, Gerald Joyce of Bassett, Ralph Joyce of Richmond, one daughter, Janet Morgan of Martinsville, two brothers, Harry Clifton Joyce of Norfolk and James Joyce of Jacksonville, FL, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Roselawn Burial Park with Rev. J.D. Harmon officiating the service. Military graveside honors will be presented by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
