Gladys Watkins Sheffield age 92, formerly of Axton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday July 11, 2016 at Blue Ridge Rehab. She was born Oct.3, 1923 in North Carolina to the late Clyde Benjamin and Pearl Clark Watkins. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her step mother, Annie Mae Purdy Watkins, who raised Mrs. Sheffield, her husband Thomas King Sheffield, three brothers, Bill, Maynard, and Robert Jackson Watkins, and two sisters, Eva Brennen and Eunice Burnette.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, and retired from Pannill Knitting Co. with 40 years of service.
She is survived by two daughters, Lorrie Sheffield of Axton, Karen Blankenship and husband Noel of Ridgeway, and one Goddaughter, Marsha Walker of Axton, three brothers, Doug Watkins of Bassett, Donnie Watkins of Henry, and Glen Watkins of Patrick Springs, four sisters, Polly Jones of Martinsville, Jeanette Gill of Winston-Salem, NC, Deborah Price of Henry, and Cheryl Wells of Collinsville, one granddaughter, Krystal Lang, and one great granddaughter, Kaiyah Lang, and Mrs. Sheffield was Nannie to Dustin Agee, Katy Agee, Taylor Walker, Savannah Walker, and Wyatt Agee.
Her funeral service will be Thursday July 14, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Nester officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 13, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home of her daughter on 3072 Barker Road, Axton.
