George Washington Cochran, Jr., age 75 of Axton died Monday Sept.16, 2013 at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1938 at Wharn, WV to the late George Washington, Sr. and Bertha Jeanette Hatfield Cochran. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one sister, Delores Ward.
He retired from Great Costal Express with 25 years service, and was a avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol Lawson Cochran of the home, three sons, Ronnie Gene Cochran of Martinsville, Ricky Eugene Cochran of Collinsville, and Steven Ray of Atlanta, GA, three daughters, Lakyn Nicole Cochran of the home, Debra Elaine Riggs of Axton, Lisa Kay Merriman of Elizabethtown, NC, one brother Quentin Gene Cochran of Martinsville, two sisters, Brenda Sue Dauer of Zephryhills, FL, Glenda Joanne Karl of Columbus, Ohio, 7, grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
The graveside service will be Friday Sept. 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm in Roselawn Burial Park with Pastor Allen Vaughn officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel, and after the service the family will receive friends at New Beginnings Worship Center, 6871 Irisburg Road, Axton. Also the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to New Beginnings Worship Center at the address listed above.
