Obituary

Gary Wayne Grogan, 55, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on April 16, 2024, in his hometown. He was born on June 19, 1968 at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was the only child of Norma Jean Grogan. He grew up in the Horsepasture area where he was baptized at an early age at Horsepasture Christian Church. Gary was a humble gentleman known for his generosity and giving heart. Gary spent his career working at Dixie Pig Barbecue, Hanesbrands, Memorial Hospital of Martinsville, and Parallon. He was dedicated to his work and touched the lives of many through his professional endeavors. A fan of Star Wars and bowling, he graduated from Drewry Mason High School in 1986 and went on to earn his Associate Degree from Patrick Henry Community College and his Bachelor's Degree from Longwood University, majoring in liberal arts with a minor in history. Gary is survived by his mother, Norma Jean Grogan, daughters Candace Grogan and Jessica Whalen (Jerry), Jessica's son, Nicholas, and life companion Delane Curry. Gary will also be missed by Hunter Curry and Mary Catherine Curry, as well as Mary Catherine's children, Gabriel, Chloe, Devin, and Ariella. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur E. and Mattie (Smith) Grogan.

The family will also be receiving friends and loved ones at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Ridgeway, Virginia, from 3pm until 5pm on Thursday, April 25th. The casual visitation will take place in the social hall of the church. Gary's legacy of kindness and devotion to his loved ones will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
