Eugene Dillard Stone age 84 of Martinsville, died Saturday Jan. 12, 2013 at Blue ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville. He was born March 22, 1928 in Bassett to the late Dillard Morris and Lucy Maude Turner Stone. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by five brothers, Melvin, Gordon, Edmond, Gerald, and Herbert Stone, and two sisters, Lucy and Jeanette Stone.
He was a Bassett High School graduate and attended National Business College in Lynchburg. From 1946 to 1949 he served in the U.S. Navy aboard two different Naval Destroyers. After returning home he went to work at First Federal Savings and Loan where he worked for 34 years as a accountant. He is still member of the Board of Directors at First Federal. He is a member of Mt. Olivet Christian Church.
He is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Peggy Ann Lovell Stone of Martinsville, two sons, Thomas Eugene Stone of Collinsville, and David Randolph Stone of Huntingtown, MD, two sisters, Mabel Stone Ingram and Esther Stone Morris, both of Martinsville, and five grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Tuesday Jan. 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastors Greg Hodges and Tim Mills officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, and at other times at the home of his son on 355 Beaver Ridge Road, Collinsville.
