Ernestine Brown Turner Zeigler age 87, formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday November 21, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Martinsville. She was born December 28, 1922 in Pine Grove, WV to the late Ernest and Lola Haught Brown. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her first husband, Hermon Ray Turner, her second husband, Lewis Zeigler, and her brother Samuel Brown.
She served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy Wave during WWII, and served as a secretary/stenographer in the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon. She was a graduate of Averett University, and was the first employee of Patrick Henry Community College, where she served as administrative assistant to the first Dean of Students, Dr. Sherman Dutton for over 15 years. Later she assisted several churches as their secretary, and she was a charter member of Kearfott Memorial Baptist Church, and was very active there for many years.
She is survived by one son, William R. "Randy" Turner of Ridgeway, one daughter, Barbara R. Bowyer of Simi Valley, CA, four brothers, Eugene Brown of Cameron, WV, Chester Brown of Rives Junction, MI, Kenton Brown of Pine Grove, WV, Andy Brown of Reader, WV, five sisters, Anna Lee Wichterman of Barberton, Ohio, Martha Lou Cunningham of Reader, WV, Dora Bucher of Reader, WV, Eileen Straight of Reader, WV, and June Rice of Pine Grove, WV, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
The graveside service will be held Wednesday November 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Roselawn Burial Park with Rev. J.D. Harmon officiating. Military graveside honors will be rendered by the Martinsville & Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
