Elizabeth Hamlett Biggs age 87, formerly of Ridgeway, died Monday January 25, 2010 at TLC Nursing Home in Bassett. She was born March 16, 1922 in Charlotte County, VA to the late Jesse Wesley and Minnie Ellen Dodd Hamlet. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her husband Charles Reed Biggs in 1979, two brothers Aubrey and Clifton Hamlett, and two sisters, Grace Holley and Alese Estepp..
She graduated from high school in the Lynchburg area and went on to Lynchburg Business College. She went to work for the Department of the Navy during WWII as a bookkeeper and secretary, and later became associated with the Prince Georges County School System as an elementary school secretary, and retired from this position. She had attended Grace Baptist Church
She is survived by two sons, Wayne R. Biggs of Martinsville, and Neal H. Biggs of Richmond, one brother Marion Hamlett of Darlington Heights, VA, one sister, Gertrude Slay ton of Lynchburg, and five grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Thursday January 28, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Michael Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday, and for one hour after the service on Thursday in the Roselawn Chapel.
