Douglas Randolph Cox age 88, formerly of the Oak Level Road, Bassett, died Thursday December 15, 2011 at Ashtabula County Medical Center in Ashtabula, Ohio. He was born November 11, 1923 in Radford to the late Gradon and Helen E. Light Cox. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his wife Bernice D. Cox.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal W/4 Bronze Stars, UN Service Medal, NDSM, and two Good Conduct Medals. He was a mechanic for several different garages in Martinsville, and was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his son Douglas W. Cox of Conneaut, Ohio, one brother Carson L. Cox of Salem, VA, five sisters, Bessie Handy of Bassett, Ruby Wass of Salem, VA, Ruth Ann Miles of Radford, VA, Maxine Streetman and Eunice Goff of Wyandotte, MI, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Wednesday December 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Ken Cleveland officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with full military honors by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday December 20, 2011 in the Roselawn Chapel.
