Dorothy "Dot" McDonald Alt, age 80, of 213 Thomas Heights, Martinsville, died on April 14, 2010 at her residence. She was born on July 10, 1929 in Romney, WVA to the late Andrew Jackson and Margaret Blackburn McDonald. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Eston H. Alt in 1996, two brothers, Claude and Red McDonald, and three sisters, Pauline Golliday, Julia Chadwick and Woody Peeler.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Martinsville. She was a graduate of Stephens City High School (Class of 1946).
She is survived by one son, Charles Andrew "Chuck" Alt of High Point, NC, two daughters, Patricia Alt of Winston-Salem, NC and Deborah Mitchell of Roanoke, one brother, Kairl McDonald of Winchester, VA and three grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Rev. Sarah Whitmore officiating the service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday before the service from 12-2 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church of Martinsville, 146 E. Main Street, Martinsville, VA 24112.
