Doris Virginia Lipford Wilson, of Axton, passed peacefully surrounded by Family on July 12, 2012 at the age of 81. She was born October 16, 1930 in Mayfield, NC. Doris was married for 56 happy and productive years to her husband John L. Wilson, Jr. John served 28 years in the United States Navy with her by his side raising their 4 children in the military life. She was the devoted mother of Randy Wilson of Virginia Beach, Dennis R. Wilson (Linda) of Axton, Rita Joyce of Sophia, NC and Tina Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC. She was the beloved Grandmother "Nanny" of Darren Wilson (Cassandra), Chris Wilson (Trisha), Amy Joyce Davis, (Matt), Sarah Joyce ( U.S. Navy), and Rachel Joyce McDaniel, Great-Grandmother to three, Tori, Xander and Ethan, and three close friends, Susan Hinson, AJ Martin and Brenda Onhaizer. She is also survived by brothers, Sanford Lipford (Barbara Jean) of Ruffin, NC, Curtis Lipford of Mayfield, NC, Claude Lipford (Carolyn) of Mayfield, NC, Jack Lipford (Betty Ann) of Mayfield, NC, Ben Lipford (Glenda) of Eden, NC, and Mack Lipford (Pat) of Greensboro, NC. And one sister, Zona Mae Oakes (Glen) of Chatham, VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mamie Lipford and a sister Elsie Lipford.
She attended Good Home Primitive Baptist Church in Axton. She retired from Henry County Schools as a cafeteria worker.
The funeral will be held on Sunday, July 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home in Martinsville, with Elder Kenny Bowles officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 6-8 pm in the chapel of Roselawn.
