May 16, 1936 – February 21, 2019
Doris Ratliff Eggleston, 82, of Lynchburg, VA passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, February 21st, 2019 at Runk & Pratt at Liberty Ridge attended by her loving family.
She was born on May 16, 1936 to the late Daniel G. Ratliff and the late Elizabeth Stewart Ratliff. She was raised in Patrick Springs, VA and received her diploma from Hardin Reynolds Memorial High School. Doris married the love of her life, Curtis W. Eggleston. They started their life together in Henry County, VA and after retirement they followed their dream to move to Myrtle Beach, SC, where they lived for 15 years.
In addition to being a loving wife and amazing mother, Doris worked at Lee Telephone Company as an operator and then for many years at Piedmont Trust Bank. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She was a Sunday school teacher and Cub Scout den mother. She loved being at the beach and loved to travel. She and Curtis adventured all across the U.S. and in neighboring countries.
She is survived by her sons C. Wayne Eggleston, Jr. and his wife Melody of Forest, VA, and Mark I. Eggleston and his wife Lavonda of Cary, NC; two granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five of her eight siblings; Melvin Ratliff (Glenda), Joe Ratliff (Linda), Alvin Ratliff (Vivian), Helen Hardy, and Larry Ratliff (Emily).
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Curtis W. Eggleston and three of her siblings, Elizabeth Ann Ratliff, James (J.C.) Ratliff and Leon Ratliff.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the loving staff at Runk & Pratt at Liberty Ridge and the Seven Hills Hospice team for providing such wonderful care.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 1st at 1:00 PM at Roselawn Cemetery, Martinsville, VA. Memorial donations may be made to The Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502 or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 744806, Atlanta, GA 30374.
