Donn Phillip Shumate, Sr. age 68 of Martinsville passed away on January 17, 2015 in Pittsylvania County. He was born Dec. 26, 1946 in Axton to the late Woodrow Wilson
and Myrtle Ballard Shumate. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his
wife Connie Thomas Shumate in October of 2014, and one brother Richard Shumate.

Donn was a graduate of Drewry Mason H.S. Class of 1964. He attended Clearview Baptist Church, and was the owner/operator of Shumate Dry Wall for over 30 years.
He was an avid golfer who won several golf tournaments, and had three holes in one. Donn loved baseball, and he played slow pitch softball for several years.

He is survived by his two sons, Donn Shumate, Jr. and Dean Shumate, both of Martinsville, two grandchildren, Matthew Austin Shumate, and Conner Blaine Shumate,
Two brothers, Ted David Shumate of Ridgeway, and Ronald Shumate of Collinsville, four sisters, Mary Melton of Horsepasture, Betty McIntosh of Wrightsville Beach, NC, Barbara Mabe of Figsboro, and Rose Shumate of Axton.

The Service of Remembrance will be Wednesday Jan. 21, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Haywood Alcorn officiating. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel.
