David Thomas Schelling, age 65, of Bassett, died on November 20, 2013 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 08, 1948 to the late Rev. Gerald Parke and Patsy Gehman Schelling in Lancaster, PA. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry, Bill and John Schelling.
He had been retired due to being disabled. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church where he volunteered with the Victory International Ministries, the food bank and the DAV van driving schedule. He graduated from Wheaton High School in Maryland. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by two brothers, Rev. Dan Schelling of Oak Level and Rev. Tim Schelling of Walton, KY, three sisters, Patty Bailey of Danville, Becky Kimrey of Burlington, NC, and Sarah Piechota of Fieldale.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church with Revs. Dan Schelling, Tim Schelling and Tom Bailey officiating the service. Interment will follow with military honors presented by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
