David Johnson "Little Bit" Moore, age 88, of 24 Mona Drive, Spencer passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Stuart, VA. He was born in Spencer on December 19, 1927 to the late John Dillon and Bessie Gentry Moore. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby Ray Moore, two brothers, Allen Moore and Robert Moore and two sisters, Pauline Spencer and Mary Davis.
He was a supervisor for the VA Dept. of Highways with 37 years of service. He had served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Moore was a member of Friendly Christian Church, a charter member of Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Dept., and a member of the Fairystone Campers Club. He graduated from Danville Community College with a welding degree. He loved to play golf, hunt, fish and travel. The family want to extend special thanks to Edwards Adult Day Care for their devotion and care of David.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Hall Moore of the home, sons, Henry David "Skip" Moore and wife Pearl of Spencer, and John William "Bill" Moore and wife Kay of Wendell, NC, two brothers, George Moore of Madison, NC and Leon Moore of Martinsville, two sisters, Lucille Hall of Stoneville, NC and Rebecca Wilkerson of Rocky Mount, six grandchildren, Wayne (Michelle) Moore of Spencer, Lee (Michelle) Moore of Spencer, Allison (Adam) Pridgen of Wilson, NC, Dane (Sarah) Moore of Durham, NC, Kristi (Bob) Grier of Midlothian, VA, Jonathan (MC Dippenar) Moore of Houston, TX and five great-grandchildren, Cassie Moore, Landen Moore, Harper Pridgen, Nicholas Grier and Caroline Grier.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastors Don Forrester and James Jordan officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park with military honors presented by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard and special honors presented by the Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn before the service on Wednesday and at other times at the home on Mona Drive.
