David Morris Arnold, age 95, of Ridgeway passed away on July 19, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. He was born on September 13, 1921 in Henry County to the late Charlie Green and Annie Morris Arnold. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Paul Arnold and four sisters, Irene Lusk, Iva Jean Jones, Dot Bryant, and Molly Hubbard.
He was a member of Preston Wesleyan Church, and had been a truck driver and an owner/operator of Arnold Brothers Sawmill and Logging. David served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was in the 14th Armored Division in the European Theater of operations where he rose to the rank of TEC 5. He drove armored vehicles behind enemy lines on reconnaissance missions.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Louise Arnold, his three sons, Mike (Trena) Arnold and Larry (Robin) Arnold both of Ridgeway and Phillip (Nancy) Arnold of Preston, two brothers, Page Arnold and Bill Arnold both of Preston, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn with Pastor Alvin Wooters officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park with military honors presented by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 21, 2017 from 6-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Roselawn, and at other times at the home of his son Mike Arnold.
