Obituary

Darnice Clayton "D.C." Mize age 93 of Martinsville, died Friday Jan. 13, 2012 at Stanleytown Health and Rehab. He was born March 24, 1918 in Henry County to the late Calvin and Orpha Hollingsworth, Mize. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by one sister, Eunice France.
D.C. was a WWII veteran, and served aboard ship in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans as well as in the Mediterranean Campaign. After the War he came back to Bassett, and shortly thereafter he moved to Martinsville to start his family. He was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for more than 30 years. He was a longtime member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church. "A gentle soul has passed."
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ivian Clark Mize of Fork Mountain, two sons, Kenneth Mize of Henry, and Carlos Mize of Yorktown, one sister Nellie Craig of Henry, four grandchildren, Karl Mize, Rhonda Pruitt, Daniel Mize, and Carter Mize, and two great grandchildren, Kasey Mize and Kameron Mize.
The funeral service will be Tuesday Jan. 17, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with Military Graveside Honors by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel.
