Connie Ann Thomas Shumate, age 66, of 156 Meadowbrook Lane, Martinsville, died on October 29, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. She was born in Martinsville on April 06, 1948 to the late Walter Anderson Thomas and Inez Martin Thomas Vernon. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Jimmy Thomas, Marvin "Buddy" Thomas, Randy Thomas and Carl Wayne Vernon.

She had attended Clearview Baptist Church and One Accord Baptist Church and had worked 37 years with Lee/Centel/Sprint telephone companies. She was also a graduate of Fieldale-Collinsville High School, Class of 1966.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donn Shumate of the home, her two sons, Donn Shumate, Jr. and Michael Dean Shumate both of Martinsville, a brother, Ray Vernon of Bassett, four sisters, Linda Trent of Martinsville, Deborah Thompson and Penny Denny both of Collinsville, Marsha Jo Vernon of Fieldale, and two grandchildren, Matthew Austin Shumate and Conner Blaine Shumate.

Her funeral service will be held in the Mausoleum in the Roselawn Burial Park on Saturday, November 01, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Haywood Alcorn officiating the service. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 6-8 pm in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home.
