Clyde J. Watkins age 94 of Hill N Dale Road, Martinsville died Wednesday Jan. 25, 2012 at Memorial hospital of Martinsville. He was born April 6, 1917 in Henry County to the late Charlie and Zera Compton Watkins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Gertrude Stone Watkins, three brothers, Charlie Marion Watkins, John Henry Watkins, and Harold B. Watkins, five sisters, Myrtle Prillaman, Doris Pugh, Mabel Ramsey, Ruth Ramsey, and Cleo Colston.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII where he advanced to the rank of TEC 5, and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European/African/Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, and German Occupation Medal. He was a Charter Member of Fort Trial Baptist Church, and retired from Riddle Oldsmobile-Cadillac with over 30 years of service.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Adkins of Martinsville, one brother, Wayne Watkins of Bassett, two sisters, Josephine Stone and Odessa Boothe, both of Bassett, one grandson, Michael Bowles & wife Sherri of Anderson, SC, and three great granddaughters, Amber Bowles, Allison Bowles, and Ashley Bowles, all of Anderson, SC.
His funeral service will be Friday January 27, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Dr. Joey McNeil officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military graveside honors by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel.
