Dr. Charles T. Wimbish, Sr., a well known optometrist and minister in the Martinsville area, passed away January 15, 2014 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born May 30, 1932 in Spray, NC to the late Mallie Vance and Rosa Hayden Wimbish. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by two brothers, Oliver and Irving Wimbish. .
Dr. Wimbish was a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in optometry and geology, and he taught optometry at UNC and was a geologist while there. He came to Collinsville and opened up Wimbish Eye Center which he operated for over 40 years, and was the Pastor of Christian Word Fellowship, and Living Word Church for about 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca S. Wimbish of Martinsville, two sons and daughter in laws, Charles Thomas "Chuck" Wimbish, Jr. and wife Susan of Martinsville and Timothy S. "Tim" Wimbish and wife Sandra of Bassett, six grandsons, John wimbish of Fieldale, Dustin Wimbish of Salem, Matthew Wimbish of Roanoke, Chris Wimbish of Radford, Andrew Wimbish of Blacksburg, and Brandon Wimbish of Martinsville, two great granddaughters, Savannah Wimbish, and Kayleigh Wimbish of Fieldale, and special friends and caregivers, Mark A. Ingram of Bassett, J.D. Draper of Collinsville, and Carolyn Caldwell of Fieldale.
The memorial service will be Saturday January 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Roselawn Chapel with Dr. Michael Penn officiating. Inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
