Betty Read Lawson age 74 of Ridgeway, died Aug.20 at her home. She was born Dec. 12, 1938 in Spencer to the late Manson A. and Nannie Sue Orander Read. In addition to her parents she was also predeceased by her husband James Edward Lawson in 2002, one grandson Wes Joyce, and 2 brothers, Guy DeShazo and Charles Read.

She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, and was retired from Bassett Walker.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon L. Joyce of Bassett, 3 sons, Robert M. Lawson of Lynchburg, James E. Lawson, Jr. of Ridgeway, and Jeffrey R. Lawson of Martinsville, 3 brothers, William DeShazo of Martinsville, Herbert Read of Ridgeway, and John Read of Spencer, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.

The funeral service will be Friday Aug.23 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Michael Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday Aug. 22 in the Roselawn Chapel, and at other times at the home on 102 Blue Ridge Lane, Ridgeway.
