Beona Hughes Compton age 93 of Martinsville died Monday Jan. 28, 2013 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home in Danville. She was born Nov. 20, 1919 in Henry County to the late Kelsie and Edith Barker Hughes. In addition to her parent she was also predeceased by her husband, Leonard Morris Compton in 1995, one son, Eugene Morris Compton, her four brothers, Connie, Charles, Fred, and Ernest Hughes, and her sister, Julia White.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church where she was active in the Women's Missionary Union, the Prayer Group, the Senior Adult Group, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret C. Barker of Danville, two sons, Kelsie M. Compton of Cary, NC, and Mark T. Compton of Martinsville, nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Thursday Jan. 31, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Dr. Joey McNeil and Rev. Tony Beach officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM in the Roselawn Chapel prior to the service on Thursday.
