Avis Emberson Smart age 90, formerly of Martinsville, died Wednesday January 25, 2012 at Sentara in Williamsburg. She was born October 20, 1921 to the late Jim Walter and Ada Keaton Smart. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Andrew R. Smart, and one sister, Geneva Moran.
She was a native of Martinsville, and moved to Norfolk with her husband during WWII. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Norfolk, and she was a manager in the grocery business in Norfolk.
She is survived by her son, Randy Smart and his wife Carol of Williamsburg, one sister, Venie Brown of Holland, VA, and three grandchildren, Stacey Smart of Richmond, Scott Smart of Raleigh, NC, and Mary Catherine Smart of Williamsburg.
The funeral service will be Saturday January 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Roselawn Chapel with Rev. Donald Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the Roselawn Chapel.
