Arthur Thomas Dudley age 88 of Bassett passed away Friday March 28, 2014 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born April 29, 1925 in Rocky Mount to the late Todd I. and Annie Mae Dudley. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter Barbara D. Houpt and several brothers and sisters.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal W/2 Service Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal W/1 Service Star. He had worked as an insurance agent for Home Beneficial Insurance for 16 years, and also worked in Security at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. He was a member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren.
Mr. Dudley is survived by his wife of 66 years Claudine Alderman Dudley of Roanoke, three sons, Vernon Dudley of Duffield, VA, Allen Dudley of Bassett, and Phillip Dudley of Roanoke, one daughter and son in law, Kathy D. and Wesley Parker of Charlottesville, and son in law, Robert Houpt of Roanoke, one sister, Lillian Barbour of Martinsville, three grandchildren, Cori and David Triano, Charles and Kimberly Dudley, and David Branch, and two great grandchildren, Leo Triano, and C.J. Dudley, Jr.
The funeral service for Mr. Dudley will be Friday April 4, 2014 at 12 noon in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Troy Mays officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with Military Graveside Honors by the Martinsville Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
