Alfis Long Jones, age 90, of 669 Valley Drive, Eden, NC, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. He was born on July 2, 1925 in Pitt County, NC to the late Joseph E. and Jenny Lynn Parker Jones. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lila Creech Jones in 1985, his second wife, Christine Jones in 2014, two brothers, Frank Tyson and Franklin Jones, and a sister, Sally Ruth Merriman.
He was a member of Clearview Wesleyan Church since 1959. He had retired from Hooker Furniture Co. and R.P. Thomas Transfer with over 37.5 years of service as a truck driver.
He is survived by his sons, Alfis (Pam) Jones of Martinsville, Danny (Dawn) Jones of Walkertown, NC, daughters, Barbara (Lloyd) Turner of Ridgeway, Iris (Jim) Beheler of Martinsville, Mavis (Ralph) Campbell of Glenville, NC, a brother, Wilbur Tyson of Boothwin, PA, sisters, Lucy Lemons of Ridgeway and Molly Williams of Mayodan, NC, eight grandchildren, Jonathan Cox, Michelle Voyles, Chad Campbell, Jessica Jones, Ashley Jones, Matthew Jones, Lila Jones and Haley Jones, and two great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clearview Wesleyan Church with Rev. Greg Reynolds officiating the service. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the church.
